On Friday and Saturday nights, Eldoret stays up late with the kind of loud-music, open-air, red-plastic-chair approach that will be familiar to those who've spent any time travelling in provincial Kenyan towns. There's plenty of fun to be had and the music is the kind you can dance to.
The Well Irish Pub and Restaurant
Location: 1st Floor, Saito Centre, Elijah Cheruiyot Street, Eldoret.
The Well is a great escape from the busy work life. The decor setup and lighting makes you feel comfortable and happy. Whether you need some pork chops, Irish lamb stew or fish ‘n chips their menu has plenty of options.
Black Bamboo Lounge
Location: Kenyatta avenue, Eldoret.
If you want to let loose after work then turn up at Black Bamboo lounge. This joint has a nice serene lounge setting and great music to get down to. It is actually hard to talk about anything business related when you are chilling at this joint.
Members Premier Restaurant
Location: Oginga Odinga street, Eldoret.
Prefer a silky smooth and perfectly balanced flavored hot cup of coffee to a pinpoint bubbly and chilled beer? Don’t fret, we care about you too!. Members Premier Restaurant is a state of the art coffee house in Eldoret that offers one of the best brewed coffee in town. Walk in to this place anytime after 5pm and you’ll find lots of Eldoretians shooting the breeze and having a good time.
Resort and Sporting Club
Location: Plateau Road – off Kapsabet Road, Eldoret
Cocktails, exquisite food, beer and pool games are some of the distinct things that make up a perfect after work hangout. That’s precisely what 64 Resort and Sporting Club offers. Located just outside Eldoret CBD, there’s enough of parking space and a calm atmosphere for you to kick it, chill and forget about the deadlines and unfinished projects.
The Big Five Motel
Location: Nandi Rd, Eldoret, Kenya
The little known Big Five Motel is an absolute gem for pizza and beer when you are off the clock. This place can be described with the cliche phrase,”home away from home.” It is a two storey residential property turned into a motel. The ground floor has a nicely set up bar and an extra lounge area is on the upper floor. Just outside are bandas where you can chill with friends.
Rumours Bar and Lounge
Location: Off B54, Eldoret, Kenya (at Poa Place)
In need of more grit? Probably have one too many, shake a leg without the worry of “getting seen”… then check into Rumours any day after 5pm. Rumours is inside Poa Place, it’s a very hyped bar/lounge with its patrons being mostly the local business expats.
This formal, dark and spicy Indian restaurant serves superb, real-deal curries. Portion sizes are decent and if you mop up all the gravy with a freshly baked butter naan, you’ll be as satisfied as Ganesh himself.
Will’s Pub & Restaurant
Looks and feels like an English pub, with similarly heavyweight food – steak and fried breakfasts – but it also produces a few African dishes of the ugali (made from maize or cassava flour) and beef-stew ilk.
Doinyo Lessos Creameries Cheese Factory
Dairy is one food group that many travellers really miss while in Kenya – paying a visit to this cheese factory should fix all that. They sell 20 different varieties of (both hard and soft) cheese, plus yoghurt, cream, milk and ice cream. Enjoy.
